Returning to snow!
December 9, 2023
For the first camp of the season it was great to have the majority of our athletes all together for the weekend, back from fall sports, school, and other activities.
On Saturday we had a big interval session where athletes got to practice their approach to tackling a course by thinking about something new each interval. Athletes were challenged to break the course into "chunks" and then to distinguish where they felt smooth and where they might be getting bogged down. The ultimate goal was for the athletes to think constructively about how they were skiing each interval and to dial in smooth technique and focused skiing. These intervals were also great practice for the wax team to get ready for the upcoming race season, and we got to shake out some cobwebs while preparing the athletes' race skis for the workout.
On the non-skiing side of camp, there was a fantastic nutrition talk with Megan Chacosky, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center dietician, and athletes and coaches learned something new. We also had a team gathering under the moon, which included hot chocolate, a campfire, an athlete-lead team meeting, and lots of opportunity for parents, coaches and athletes to socialize!
